Buckwheat (scientific name; Fagopyrum sagittatum) is a honey bee worthy plant. Grows 1-2', blooms 4 weeks after sowing and blooms for 2-3 weeks. Bees normally work flowers in the early morning. Is a significant source of nectar, and provides pollen as well. Pollen grains are yellowish-green, round, medium sized.

Buckwheat honey can range in color from dark purple to black. In general, it looks like your average, amber-colored honey with a slight reddish tint. A richer taste that some liken to molasses.
